She was born April 22, 1939, to Joseph W. Pierucki and Caroline E. (Otto).
Shirley devoted her life to faith, education, and caring for others. From a young age she attended St. Charles Borromeo Catholic School. She then began her journey as a nun with the Franciscan Sisters of the Sacred Heart, where she became known as Sister Mary Giovanni. Later, Shirley continued her teaching ministry with the Franciscan Sisters St. Michael School. She later moved to Los Angeles, where she became a nurse and also taught and mentored other nurses.
Upon returning to the Coldwater area, Shirley continued her nursing career, serving at Cameron Hospital, Coldwater Hospital, the Coldwater Regional Center, and the Kalamazoo State Hospital. After retiring from nursing, she fulfilled a lifelong dream by opening the Hideout Bed & Breakfast, which she lovingly operated for many years.
Shirley was a devoted member of St. Charles Borromeo Church. She generously gave her time volunteering at the local senior center and Pines Behavioral Health. She had a deep love for animals, especially dogs, and spent many years fostering them. Shirley found true joy in helping others, nurturing her faith, tending to her yard, and caring for her flowers.
She is survived by her daughter, Stephanie Wasson; her grandchildren Stacy Robinson and Scott Wasson; her great grandchildren, Carolynn Robinson and Emily Robinson; and her many nieces and nephews: Constance Thomas; Jeannette (Henry) Osburn; Bernadine Pierucki; Cheryl (Rikk) Carlson-Pierucki; Cynthia Rowsey-Pierucki; Caren Pierucki; Christopher (Lori) Pierucki; Michael Pierucki; Joseph (Elisa) Pierucki; Daniel (Trissy Upston) Pierucki; Monica (Mark) Hacker; and Angela (Ken) Washburn. She was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings, Conrad (Yvonne) Pierucki, Richard (Charlotte) Pierucki, and Kenneth (Cheryl) Pierucki; as well as her nephew, Patrick Pierucki.
