DETROIT, MI (WTVB) – Mike Duggan, the former Mayor of Detroit and current independent candidate for Michigan Governor, officially accepted the endorsement of Sprinklers Union Local 704 Monday.
In a statement following the announcement, Duggan praised the union’s long history of securing higher pay, safer working conditions, and better benefits for its members. He emphasized that his campaign as an independent is centered on delivering these same results for working men and women across the state, positioning himself as a candidate who can “put people over politics” to fix Lansing.
This latest backing adds to a growing list of labor endorsements for Duggan, who has recently secured support from several skilled trade and public safety organizations.
He remains the first major candidate to enter the 2026 gubernatorial race as an independent, aiming to succeed the term-limited Governor Gretchen Whitmer.
