BETHEL TOWNSHIP, (WTVB) – A barn and its contents were destroyed by fire Saturday evening in Bethel Township.
According to Bronson Fire Chief Scott Wilbur, his department was originally dispatched to a grass fire in the 200 block of Lockwood Road just before 6:00 pm., a second call reported a fully engulfed barn fire on the property. The first crews arrived to find a 30’X50′ pole barn engulfed in flames and a grass fire heading toward a wood hip-roof barn.
They were able quickly extinguished the grass fire to protect other buildings on the property.
Bronson received mutual aid from Coldwater with an engine, while Lakeland and Union City provided additional tankers.
Wilbur says they believe the fire began from a cutting tool being used to demolish a mobile home on the property, He says in all it took about 30,000 gallons of water to fight the fire and protect the other structures and there were no injuries.
Wilbur also says the property owners had no insuarance on the barn that was destroyed.
Crews were able to clear the scene in about three hours.
