COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – At the beginning of last nights Coldwater City Council meeting Mayor Tom Kramer addressed recent controversies and criticism the council has faced both on line and in the public comment portion of recent meetings, the mayor said council members receive $160 per month to perform their duties and hadn’t seen a raise in over 20 years
Kramer said all issues have two sides of opinion and their main job is to listen to both sides and then proceed with what they feel best serves the community
The mayors comments came on the heels of sharp criticism over ordinance 885 a proposed update to the International Property Maintenance Code. Under the proposed rules, property owners could face a process lasting one to two years to bring buildings into compliance before matters reach the City Council for a final decision. The mayor says they are reworking the ordinance to give the property owner options
There was no timetable given for when that ordinance may come back before council.
