COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Women Who Care of Branch County raised $7,100 at their February meeting to support the Branch County Literary Council, bringing the group’s total community contributions to $439,200 since its founding in 2014.
Members voted to award the funds to the Literacy Council to assist with curriculum updates and learning materials.
The philanthropic circle operates by having members attend four one-hour meetings a year and donating $100 at each, though attendance is not required to participate. During these quarterly gatherings at the Insight Coldwater Conference Center, three local organizations present their needs before the membership votes on which cause will receive the collective donation.
The organization is now looking ahead to its next meeting on May 20, with grant applications for interested local charities due by April 15. Nonprofits looking to apply can find forms on the Women Who Care of Branch County Get Involved Page, while additional updates are posted on the https://www.facebook.com/WomenWhoCareBC/. Current members who still need to submit their quarterly $100 donation are asked to drop off their checks to Marie Wilber at Nichols Accounting in Coldwater or utilize the group’s online giving option.
