COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Michigan State Police have teamed up with law enforcement agencies from five neighboring states for a high-visibility crackdown on distracted driving that began on Monday
.Part of the long-standing 6-State Trooper Project, the initiative runs through Monday, April 13, and targets motorists who use handheld devices or engage in other activities that divert focus from the road.
Troopers are specifically watching for violations of Michigan’s hands-free law, which prohibits drivers from holding a mobile device while operating a vehicle.
This coordinated regional effort includes the Ohio State Highway Patrol and state police from Indiana, Pennsylvania, Kentucky, and West Virginia.
By pooling resources across state lines, the participating agencies aim to reduce preventable crashes and promote safer driving habits during National Distracted Driving Awareness Month. Officials emphasize that taking eyes off the road for even a few seconds can have devastating consequences, and this eight-day surge is designed to hold distracted drivers accountable and increase overall highway safety.
