COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Branch County 9-1-1 Director Bob Swick told the County’s 9-1-1 Board on Wednesday morning they are looking to replace Code Red alert system after numerous issues developed during the last year.
Code Red was the victim of a cyber attack last year. Many subscribers were left unprotected when a EF-3 tornado struck Union Lake and the village of Union City on March 6 because the old data did not transfer to the new system.
Another issue has been the lack of registrations. Only about 5,100 persons in Branch County were registered as of last month. That amounts to just over 11% of the counties population.
Swick said their agreement runs out at the end of August. He added Monroe, Wayne and Sanilac Counties have switched over to one of the companies he has looked at.
He indicated anyone who has or will sign up for Code Red would be switched over automatically to the new system once it’s in place.
