RICHLAND, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Cardinal baseball team fell to 1-3 as they were swept by Gull Lake Wednesday, 19-9 in 5 innings and 12-7 in 5 innings.
In the first game, the Blue Devils erupted for 9 runs in the fourth inning and 6 runs in the fifth, out-hitting the Cardinals 16-8. Logan Turner and Owen Tappenden each singled and homered and drove in two runs.
The second game saw Gull Lake snap a 7-7 tie with a 5-run outburst in the fourth. Tappenden was 3-for-3, Dayton Ennis went 2-for-3, and Finn Hanson drove in two runs.
Coldwater will open up interstate 8 play Thursday against Marshall at Lowe Field.
BRONSON, MI – Bronson improved to 3-1 as they defeated Mendon 14-4 in 6 innings.
Collin Webb singled and doubled and drove in three runs, while Joe Fair hit a two-run single and finished with 3 RBIs. Winning pitcher Reid Stukey gave up two hits and struck out 4.
The Vikings will host Centreville Saturday.
UNION CITY, MI – Union City improved to 3-1 overall and 2-0 in the Big 8 as they swept to victory against visiting Concord, 14-4 in 5 innings and 14-1 in 6 innings.
Carson Liles smacked a 3-run homer in the opener and went 2-for-3 in the opener. Liam Payne, Nolan Chard, Simon Swartzle, and Tony Zweng all doubled as part of the Chargers’ 13-hit attack. Chard allowed 1 run on 3 hits with 6 strikeouts in 4 innings of work as he picked up the victory.
In the nightcap, Liles allowed 1 run on 4 hits, a walk, and 11 strikeouts in 5 innings for the win; offensively, he drove in 3 runs with a solo homer and a double. Chard, Swartzle, and Zweng again doubled as Union City cranked out 16 hits.
The Chargers will welcome Galesburg-Augusta to Alumni Field Saturday.
