UNION CITY, MI (WTVB) – The Union City Charger softball team improved to 4-0 overall and opened up Big 8 play at 2-0 with a pair of wins against visiting Concord Friday, 14-4 in 5 innings and 17-2 in 4 innings.
In the first game, Brooke Thomas threw a one-hitter with 10 strikeouts, while Jezelle Nagel went 3-for-3, including a double, and drove in 3 runs. Thomas and Ambrielle Phelps doubled, and Madison Krummrey went 2-for-3 with a triple.
The second game saw Lauren Tundevold go 3-for-4, including 2 doubles, with 5 RBIs. Calli Wilkinson also drove in 5 runs as she went 2-for-4. Karlie Eagan hit a 2-run double and was also the winning pitcher.
The Chargers will host Galesburg-Augusta for a non-conference twinbill on Saturday.
Quincy’s rescheduled baseball and softball doubleheaders at Springport were postponed a second time. A makeup date has not yet been announced.
The Oriole softball team will be at the Marshall Sportsfest Saturday, while the baseball team will host Battle Creek Central on Monday.
