COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Cardinal baseball team went 1-2 Saturday at its own Pat Lowe Invitational. They defeated Cadillac 5-2, lost to Three Rivers 12-1 in 5 innings, and were shut out by Niles Brandywine 9-0 in 6 innings.
Against Cadillac, Rylan Edwards got the complete game victory; he allowed 2 runs on 7 hits with no walks and 6 strikeouts. Kayden Roby doubled, and Royale Fleming went 2-for-4 with 2 RBIs.
Dayton Ennis and Caiden Searing had the only Cardinal hits against Three Rivers, who broke the game open with 8 runs in their half of the fifth.
Against Brandywine, the only Coldwater hits came from Edwards, Roby, and Matthew Hurley.
The Cardinals will take a 4-5 record into their doubleheader Tuesday at Parma Western.
BRONSON, MI – Bronson improved to 4-1 with a doubleheader sweep Saturday against visiting Centreville, 10-2 and 17-3 in 5 innings.
Joe Fair did it all for the Vikings in the first game. He got the win on the mound, allowing 1 run on 5 hits with 4 strikeouts in 5 innings of work. He also went 3-for-4 with a double and 3 RBIs, while teammate Rylan Fincham was 2-for-4.
The second game saw Bronson explode for 10 runs in the second, adding 5 runs in ght third and 2 in the fourth as they belted 13 hits. Connor McClelland went 2-for-3 with a triple and 3 RBIs, Ben Stevens was 3-for-3 with a double and 3 RBIs, Fincham had a 2-run double, and Reid Stukey went 2-for-3 with a double and drove in a run. Cooper Ferry earned the win in relief of starter Max Byler.
UNION CITY, MI – Union City is now 5-1 overall after they swept Galesburg-Augusta Saturday, 15-6 and 17-7 in 5 innings.
In the opener, Tucker Zweng hit a three-run home run and went 2-for-4. Nolan Chard was 4-for-4 with a double and 4 RBIs, and Brock Watson wend 2-for-4 with a double. Starter Simon Swartzle was the winning pitcher.
The Chargers scored in every inning in the nightcap, breaking the game open with 8 runs in the third. Watson, Carson Liles, and Cullen Decker all doubled, while Dalton Hawk drove in 3 runs. Max Payne got th e pitching victory.
Union City will play an important Big 8 doubleheader Tuesday at Bronson.
