COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Brian Stevens is a long time teacher in Advancement Placement Government at Coldwater High School, and he believes this year will see the best course ending test scores in more than 25 years.
A passing grade on the test this spring will earn the student a college credit for an introductory US government class.
Two of the CHS students enrolled in Stevens’ class are seniors Zach Miller and Lewis Eastmead. They spoke along with their teacher at last week’s meeting of the Coldwater Early Bird Exchange Club. A passing score on the credit test for most colleges is 3 on a 1 to 5 scale and according to Stevens, only 50% nationwide pass the government class exam, while at Coldwater High School, 75-80% pass the test.
Stevens expects both Miller and Eastmead will post the highest score of 5 and believes overall, ten or more of his students will also end up with the best possible score.
Stevens has been an instructor in AP government at CHS since 1991. Zach Miller will be enrolling at Michigan State and then attend medical school focusing on orthopedic surgery. Lewis Eastmead will be going to Albion College seeking a degree in political science while aiming to begin his career as a math teacher.
