KINDERHOOK TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB) – The cause of a weekend fire in Branch County’s Kinderhook Township is still under investigation.
The fire on the Jim McKenney property at 595 Stokes Road was reported at about 2:30 a.m. Saturday morning. Firefighters were on the scene for nearly four and a half hours.
Lakeland Assistant Fire Chief David Smith said at least two people were in the home when the fire in an attached garage broke out. The fire then spread to the residence, but everyone inside managed to get out.
Two family dogs were also saved.
The Lakeland Fire Department received mutual aid from Bronson and Fremont, Indiana firefighters.
Crews cleared the scene just after 7:00 a.m..
Life Care Ambulance and the Michigan State Police were also at the scene.
