HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL
COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Coldwater split their two games in the rescheduled Pat Lowe Memorial Baseball tournament on Friday. They defeated previously undefeated Gull Lake 4-3 in nine innings before getting shut out by Mattawan 11-0 in the tournament championship game.
Hunter St. Clair’s walk off RBI single in the last of the ninth against Gull Lake made Austin Santure the winner in relief after he pitched three shutout innings. Santure, Austin Roby and Jaxon Janusz also had RBIs in the win over the Blue Devils.
The Cardinals saw their four game winning streak come to an end in the loss to Mattawan. Wildcats winning pitcher Ryan Dorf struck out 10 in the five inning game and tossed a one-hitter. The only hit he allowed was a lead off double by Roby in the first inning.
With the split, the Cardinals record is 5-3.
Gull Lake bounced back to beat Dundee 13-3 in the consolation game at Borden Field. Mattawan advanced to the title game by defeating Dundee 8-6.
BRONSON, MI – Bronson improved to 7-0 with a 6-3 win against visiting Jackson Lumen Christi. Brett Sikorski picked up the win, allowing 2 runs on 5 hits with 8 strikeouts and two walks; he also had a single and a double, while Cody Schwartz had a single and a triple and Kameron Haviland had three hits.
UNION CITY, MI – Union City fell to 1-5 after dropping both ends of a doubleheader to Michigan Center, 8-7 and 3-1. The Kever brothers, Grady and Larson, each had a single and a double in the opener as the Chargers’ comeback attempt fell one run short. Grady Kever and Colton Johns picked up the only Union City hits in the nightcap.
HIGH SCHOOL TRACK
BATTLE CREEK, MI – Bronson’s girls finished fifth at the Battle Creek Lakeview Invitational. Madelyn Thompson won the discus with a throw of 98′ 3″. while Keona Salesman was second in the high jump and third in the 400 meter run.Jenna Salek was also a double medalist, placing second in the 100 meters and third in the 200 meters. Top finisher for the Viking boys was Dominic Kelly, who was eighth in the high jump.
HIGH SCHOOL BOYS GOLF
COLDWATER, MI – Coldwater hosted 23 schools in this year’s Cardinal Invitational at the Coldwater Golf Course. Portage Central won the event with a team score of 309. Charlie DeLong from DeWitt was the Medalist with a 3 under par 69.
Coldwater finished in 8th place with a team score of 343. Alec Keplinger paced the Cardinals with an 83, while Kyle Herman shot 85, Noah Waterbury 86, Grey Skudlarick 89, and Tanner Jent 111.
Quincy finished in 12th with a team score of 357. Chase Kingsbury had the low round for the Orioles with an 87, while Lawson Tell shot 88, Mason Shilling 90, Brody Glei 92, and Cody Smith 93.
HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS SOCCER
BATTLE CREEK, MI – Coldwater fell at Harper Creek 4-0 in the Interstate 8 opener for both teams. Nadia Kiersey made 5 saves in goal as Harper Creek outshot Coldwater 12-2. The Lady Cardinals are now 0-1 in the conference and 0-3 overall.
The Coldwater JV team tied their game with Harper Creek 1-1.
