ANGOLA, IN (WTVB) – Another big name from Washington D.C. will be part of college graduation ceremonies in the area. Housing and Urban Development Secretary and former presidential candidate Dr. Benjamin Carson will deliver the commencement address at Trine University in Angola, Indiana May 5, 2018.
The commencement ceremony will begin at 10:00 a.m. in the Keith E. Busse/Steel Dynamics Inc. Athletic Recreation Center on Trine’s main campus.
Carson is a Detroit native. Before running for President in 2016, Carson served as director of pediatric neurosurgery at the Johns Hopkins Children’s Center. Among the many awards he has received is the Presidential Medal of Freedom. He is also a recipient of the Spingarn Medal, which is the highest honor bestowed by the NAACP.
Carson has authored nine books, four of which he co-wrote with his wife Candy. The U.S. News Media Group and Harvard’s Center for Public Leadership named him among “America’s Best Leaders” in 2008.
