QUINCY, MI (WTVB) – A severely burned man was flown to Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo Thursday morning following a house fire on U.S. 12 just east of Quincy.
Quincy Fire Chief Michael Sherman says the fire appears to have started in the living room. It’s under investigation by the Michigan State Police Fire Marshall’s Office but Sherman said it does not appear to be suspicious in nature.
Sherman says the house was occupied by two persons. A woman reported the fire and that someone was trapped inside to Branch County 911 at about 2:00 a.m..
Sherman says firefighters found the burn victim near a couch. He was taken out of the house and while he was severely burned, Sherman said he was still breathing.
A helicopter landing zone was set up on the roadway for the chopper from West Michigan Air Care to fly out the injured man.
Sherman says Quincy crews encountered flames when they arrived. The Coldwater and Allen Fire Departments provided mutual aid.
The Branch County Sheriff’s Department Victim Services Unit assisted at the scene as did Quincy Police and the Michigan State Police.
U.S. 12 was closed for almost two hours because of the blaze.
