COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The City of Coldwater Planning Commission turned down a pair of Zoning Text Amendments Monday night.
A request to raise the maximum height of residential accessory buildings to 20 feet, six inches was turned down on a 4-2 vote. The request was made because of a number of variance requests that have been submitted and the number of non-conforming accessory structures throughout the city. City Planner Dean Walrack pointed out the older neighborhoods of the City contain many accessory structures which are taller than allowed by current zoning ordinances.
Planning Commission member Al Swain cast one of the four no votes because he felt the amendment would create more problems than solve.
The Planning Commission also voted 5-1 against an amendment to add Commercial Mini-Storage as an allowable use within a D-1 Light Industrial District.
