COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Engineering Manager Charles Bauschard told the Coldwater Board of Public Utilities Board of Directors Tuesday night that the utility’s electric system had 71 sustained interruptions during 2017.
A sustained outage is considered to be anything over three minutes.
Bauschard said wildlife, equipment failures, and trees were the three top reasons for the outages.
He added squirrels are no longer their leading nemesis.
Bauschard said during his presentation that he did not count last October’s 24 hour interruption of power because CBPU equipment was not responsible for the outage.
The report indicated the average CBPU customer had electric service available 99.98 percent of the time and experienced an average of 1.02 interruptions last year. The average time to restore power was 67 minutes.
The CBPU electrical system picked up 187 customers last year resulting in a total of 6,928 customers at the end of 2017.
