RICHLAND, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Cardinals have advanced to the Class A Boys Basketball District championship game at Richland Gull Lake after they defeated Battle Creek Lakeview Wednesday night 58-44.
Coldwater improved to 18-3 as they jumped out to leads of 20-11 after the first quarter and 33-21 at halftime. Coldwater owned a 41-29 edge in rebounds as Lakeview ended their season at 5-17.
Gage McGuire led Coldwater with a double-double as he scored 21 points and grabbed 14 rebounds while Brady Beckhusen had 17 points and Damon Beckhusen had eight assists.
Coldwater plays Kalamazoo Loy Norrix for the district title at Gull Lake Friday night at 7:00 p.m. after Loy Norrix defeated Harper Creek 60-54.
Class C at Homer
Homer 67, Bronson 50
Bronson’s resurgent season ended on Wednesday night as they were beaten by the Homer Trojans 67-50 in the Class C Districts at Homer. The Vikings only trailed 29-26 at halftime and 42-36 after three quarters. But the Trojans broke the game open with a 25-14 fourth quarter. Wyatt Heal led Bronson with 17 points while Ethan Cossairt had 10 points. Four Homer Trojans finished in double figures. The Vikings finished 13-9.
Quincy 61, Centreville 50
The Quincy Orioles have earned a rematch with Homer for Class C District crown on Friday night after the Orioles defeated Centreville 61-50 on Wednesday night. Leading scorers for the 18-4 Orioles were Drew Deaton with 21 points, Will Dunn had 20 points and Bryce Ruhl had 10 points. Deaton had five buckets from beyond the three point arc. Quincy beat out Homer for the Big 8 Conference title. The two teams split the regular season games.
