COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A suspected Branch County drug dealer who allegedly has been selling crystal meth was busted by Coldwater City Police Monday night and remains jailed on a $325,000 bond.
24-year old Matthew Dunks II, who lives in Sherwood Township, was the subject of an undercover investigation by the Coldwater Drug Enforcement Team. He was arraigned yesterday in Branch County District Court on 3 counts of delivery of methamphetamine and one count of possession of meth with intent to deliver.
City Police say a confidential informant provided a tip that led officers to arrest Dunks after he drove his car into the parking lot of Rick’s Party Store on Coldwater’s south side. Police were provided a description of Dunk’s 2006 Dodge Magnum and were waiting for the vehicle to show up at the store Monday night.
According to investigators, they were told that’s when Dunks was expecting to make a meth sale but instead was taken into custody. Police said more than 17.5 grams of crystal meth was discovered in the suspect’s car along with various drug paraphernalia and $1,000 cash. Also in the vehicle were 13 notebooks detailing suspected drug activities. The money and car were forfeited by Dunks as a result of the arrest, which was based on a warrant issued last Friday.
Dunks is due back in Branch County District Court for a probable cause hearing on March 13th.
