COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Branch County Sheriff’s Department posted a statement on its Facebook page on Friday about phone calls to local residents from someone saying they are an investigator from the Sheriff’s Department.
According to several reports the Sheriff’s Department received, the caller tells the person on the other end of the line there is a outstanding warrant against them.
The caller then tries to keep the person on the phone as they direct them to go and get money cards to pay the bond.
The Sheriff’s Department says this is a fraud as they will NOT call someone on the phone to tell them they have a warrant, and will never ask for someone to get a money card to pay a bond.
They say when in doubt, hang up and call the Sheriff’s Department at (517) 278-2325.
