DETROIT, MI (WTVB) – Eleven Branch County wrestlers will be competing this weekend at the Michigan High School Athletic Association Individual Wrestling Finals. With the closing of the Palace of Auburn Hills, the State Finals are being held at Ford Field in downtown Detroit where a total of 20 mats will be used.
Bronson’s Ben Modert (103) and Chase Gibson (215) along with Union City’s Colton Johns (171) won Division Four regional championships two weeks ago.
Coldwater wrestlers advancing to states were Zoe Nowicki (112), Zeke Nowicki (112), Nick Buchanan (119), Hamza Muflihi (125) and Zach Miller (171). Zoe Nowicki is the second female to ever advance to the Division Two State Finals.
Besides Modert and Gibson, Issac Tappendan (140) of Bronson advanced to Detroit in Division Four. Union City’s Nick Collyer (112) will be joining his teammate Johns in the Division Four tournament at Ford Field.
Quincy’s Chandler Locke (152) will be competing in the Division Three State Finals.
