INDIANAPOLIS, IN (WTVB) – You maybe seeing a few less license plates from Indiana in Branch County store parking lots on Sundays, especially in stores where alcohol is being sold.
Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb signed a bill Wednesday afternoon that will allow carryout alcohol sales on Sundays in Indiana beginning this weekend.
Sunday alcohol sales in Indiana have been debated for years. Several attempts have failed to left the ban on Sunday booze sales in the Hoosier State but an agreement was finally reached last November between the Indiana Association of Beverage Retailers and the Indiana Retail Council.
The Sunday ban on carryout alcohol in Indiana has been in effect since Prohibition.
Starting this Sunday, alcohol can be bought in Indiana grocery, drug, convenience and liquor stores between noon and 8:00 p.m..
