COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Coldwater City Manager Keith Baker says the city intends to inspect affected structures on Pilot Knob and work with property owners in the cleanup process following the flooding of the property this week. A voluntary evacuation was ordered on Thursday by Branch County Emergency Management after the rising flood waters caused utilities to fail.
Baker says in his report for Monday’s City Council meeting that the city has proactively brought attention to the risks of flooding by annually providing information to those property owners located within the 100 year floodplain as well as lenders, realtors and insurance agents in the area.
He added the city is also taking steps to more accurately document the extent and area impacted by the flood on homes and properties on Pilot Knob for comparison purposes with future events, possible future grant opportunities or when new construction is proposed.
