COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Branch County Sheriff John Pollack says the aging jail has now develped a leaky roof. Pollack told the Branch County Board of Commissioners during their work session Thursday that the jail roof leaked while snow from the storm two weeks ago melted.
Pollack said some of the water shorted out and blew out the transformer for the electric door locks, so the doors had to be opened manually with large jail keys.
Repairs are being made. Pollack said he was amazed the roof did not leak during this week’s heavy rain. Some large buckets were put out but they were not needed.
The source of the leaks that came from the portion of the roof that was recently repaired is still being tracked down, but it is believed the large amount of snow and its weight may have been a factor.
