COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A downtown Coldwater business that had a grand reopening with new owners last July is closed, and it’s anybody’s guess as to when it will re-open or if it will reopen.
According to post on the Facebook page for the North Woods Coffee Company, the business is closed until further notice. A hand written note on the door of the business at 34 West Chicago said the same thing on Thursday and no one answered the phone when the business was called during the afternoon.
A posting on the North Woods Facebook page Tuesday night said they were going to be closed the following day due to a family emergency but they were planning to reopen Thursday.
The news comes just more than two months after the store said they were hiring.
Management for the business issued a statement Thursday night saying “this temporary closure is due to a financial situation and the state of the building. Please be patient and understanding of our situation. We know we have failed you but we do not want to be open if we are not at 100%. Having said that, the building and business is for sale. Please contact Andrea Pavlov if you have any questions. Again, from the bottom of my heart, I am sorry.”
In its heyday, the North Woods was a popular place to meet, have a meal or grab a cup of coffee. Now its apparent closing means the task of revitalizing downtown Coldwater has become even more difficult.
The North Woods is located in the old J.B. Branch Building. There was talk last June of the building being renovated but so far nothing has materialized.
