LANSING, MI (WTVB) – Chances look excellent that there will be an additional $175 million spent on fixing roads around the state this summer. By a 109-0 vote, the Michigan House approved spending that money now instead of next year.
State Representative Eric Leutheuser joined his colleagues in the House to advance the legislation. He said in a statement released by his office, “Everyone knows this year’s weather has been a perfect recipe for potholes. The sooner we can address this critical need, the better. I’m pleased that we can provide this funding which will be a benefit to every Michigan driver.”
Branch County is in line to get over $462,000 as part of the statewide funding distribution while Hillsdale County will get over $485,000.
In addition, several cities and villages within Branch County will also receive funding including Bronson ($18,808), Coldwater ($86,704), Quincy ($12,077), Sherwood ($3,964) and Union City ($13,799).
Governor Snyder had proposed spending the extra money next year. $15 million of the $175 million will be spent on new technologies and other projects to enhance transportation services for disabled residents and senior citizens.
The measure now goes to the Michigan Senate for consideration.
