COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – In high school boys basketball, Coldwater led wire-to-wire in their 47-30 Senior Night win against Harper Creek. The Cardinals led 10-4 after the first quarter and 26-11 at the half. Head Coach Quinn Berry: Dylan Targgart led all scorers with 16 points and 7 rebounds, while Gage McGuire had 9 points, 11 rebounds, and 3 steals.
Our McDonald’s Player of the Game, Damon Beckhusen, had 7 points and 3 assists. Coldwater improves to 13-3 overall, 9-2 in the Interstate 8, a half-game behind 10-2 Parma Western.
Hall of Fame Night was not kind to Union City, as the Chargers fell to Big 8-leading Homer 58-42. The Trojans led at the half 23-16 and put the game away with a 23-6 third quarter. Brandon Rogers had a team-high 10 points for Union City, which fell to 5-9 overall, 3-7 in the Big 8.
Quincy rode the hot hand of William Dunn to a 53-39 win against Jonesville on the Orioles’ Hall of Fame Night. Dunn finished with 26 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 blocks, with Caleb McCavitt adding 7 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals. Quincy improves to 12-4 overall; at 10-1 in the Big 8, they sit one game behind Homer in the league standings ahead of their showdown next Friday.
Bronson posted a 64-55 win against visiting Springport. Ethan Cossairt led the way for the Vikings with 19 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 steals; Brenden Bell had 10 points and 9 boards, and Wyatt Heal added 10 as Bronson improves to 10-5 overall, 5-5 in the Big 8.

In girls basketball, Coldwater was locked in another nailbiter, hanging on for a 41-39 win against Harper Creek. The Beavers took a 21-17 halftime lead over the Cardinals into the locker room, but Coldwater head coach Ken Smoker said he wasn’t worried, telling his team before the start of the fourth quarter that if they execute their game plan, things would go well.
Tyler Sched, our McDonald’s Player of the Game, led the Lady Cards with 14 points and 12 rebounds, with Malorie Rzepka adding 13. Coldwater improves to 16-1 overall, 10-1 in the Interstate 8.
Bronson defeated Springport 60-46. Four Vikings scored in double figures, with Payton Robinson’s 14 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 steals leading the way. Keona Salesman had 13 points and 6 boards, Kiera Lasky scored 12, and Ashton Wronikowski added 10 as Bronson improves to 12-5 overall, 8-3 in the Big 8.
Quincy couldn’t hold off league-leading Jonesville,, as the Comets beat the host Orioles 51-27. Cailyn Cook and Hannah Clark had 6 points apiece as Quincy fell to 8-9 overall, 4-7 in the Big 8.
Union City dropped a 63-26 decision to visiting Homer. Allison Adams had a team-high 9 points for the Chargers, who drop to 6-11 overall, 2-9 in the Big 8.

Coming up this afternoon, there’s a pair of Interstate 8 girls and boys basketball doubleheaders rescheduled from last Friday’s snow-out. Harper Creek is at Pennfield, while Coldwater hosts Jackson Northwest. The winner of the Northwest-Coldwater girls basketball game, which tips off at 5 this afternoon, will have sole possession of first place in the I-8. Our coverage of both games begins at 4:45pm.
Also in today’s schedule, in addition to the MHSAA Individual Wrestling Regionals, it’s the girls competitive cheer districts. Coldwater will be at the Division 2 District at Mattawan, while Bronson and Union City will compete at the Division 4 District at Lawton.
