COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Coldwater City Police say an alert gas station store clerk helped crack a counterfeiting case over the weekend that resulted in the arrest of a suspect.
The investigation started late Sunday morning when the female clerk at the Marshall Street Shell called 9-1-1 to report a woman attempted to make a purchase with a phony $20 bill that the clerk said didn’t exactly feel like or have the color of authentic currency. The suspect left the station when the store refused to accept the counterfeit bill and the clerk provided a description of the suspect’s vehicle.
About an hour later, police spotted the woman’s red Ford Explorer in the parking lot of the West Side Shell at US 12 and Western Avenue with the suspect sitting behind the wheel and made their arrest around 12:30 pm Sunday.
Taken into custody was 28-year old Dalyn Perry of St. Joseph County’s Constantine Township. Officers said she had the $20 bill in question in her possession and found a wallet in her vehicle that contained more counterfeit $20, $50, and $100 dollar bills.
Perry was arraigned Monday in Branch County District Court on a counterfeiting charge and released from custody after posting 10% of a $35,000 bond. She’s due back in court for a probable cause hearing February 20, 2018..
