QUINCY, MI (WTVB) – Due to the Winter Storm Warning Friday night, volunteers staffed the Quincy Fire Department with four firefighters over night for the first time in department history. According to fire officials, it paid off.
As the crew was waking up Saturday morning, they were dispatched to 365 N. Briggs Road for a house on fire with people trapped. The first engine company arrived on the scene in a little over four and a half minutes to find a two story dwelling with heavy fire through the roof of the home.
The fire crew was able to immediately locate and remove the lone occupant from the rear porch of the home to safety and without injury thanks to the help of Branch County 911 dispatchers.
The fire appears to have originated from a wood stove pipe in the attic space of the home. Due to the buildings construction features and the extremely heavy fire load, the fire quickly spread to the second floor and through the roof.
The fire was brought under control within an hour of the initial call.
Mutual aid was received from the Allen, Coldwater and Fremont Fire Departments to assist with fire suppression and water supply operations. Quincy Police, Lifecare Ambulance and Branch County Victims Services also assisted at the scene.
