COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater City Council will be asked Monday night to award a bid of over $147,000 from E.T. MacKenzie Company of Grand Ledge for the removal of the Old U.S. 12 bridge.
E.T. MacKenzie had the low bid of the six that were submitted to the city.
Engineering Project Coordinator Sarah Fronczak says in her letter to the City Council that the removal of the structure was complicated by the presence of a 12 inch water main serving residents of Pilot Knob. She says a plan to support the water main, while removing the bridge, has been put together.
According to Fronczak, the bridge will be removed and a steel beam will be laid across the existing abutments and tied to the water main. A fence will be put in place so that people won’t walk on the beam.
City Manager Keith Baker says in his report to the Council that the removal of the bridge is scheduled to start in late February.
