COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Even though Friday’s snowstorm was slow in developing, it picked up intensity throughout the day, dumping anywhere from 12 to 16 inches of snow across Branch County.
The National Weather Service had originally issued a Winter Storm Warning until midnight Friday, cut it back until 7:00 p.m., then revised it to end at 11:00 p.m. Friday. The NWS said snowfall at the rate of one inch per hour could be expected.
City of Coldwater Department of Municipal Services crews, on the job plowing the city streets since 4:00 a.m. Friday, knocked off around 6:00 p.m. They were scheduled to resume plowing at 4:00 a.m. Saturday.
While no major accidents were reported Friday during the heaviest snow, a 50 vehicle pile-up on I-94 near Galesburg and another multi-vehicle accident caused by the weather conditions closed down the expressway for several hours Friday.
