COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater High School girls gymnastics team honored their seniors at their final home dual meet in high fashion, posting their highest team score of the season as they defeated Monroe 129.8 to 112.1. The Cards earned more than 30 points on each event.
Vault…Senior Sarah Hughes led the team with a personal best score of 8.65 to earn first place. Senior teammate Brooke Neitzert posted a season high mark of 8.35 for second place.
Uneven Bars…Erica Rodgers won the event with a personal best score of 8.1. Brooke Neitzert earned second place with her personal best mark of 7.9.
Balance Beam…Sarah Hughes picked up her second personal best of the night with a score of 8.7 for the win on the beam. Erica Rodgers stuck her beam routine to earn second place at 8.35. Following right on her heels was teammate Claire Sheppard at 8.3.
Floor Exercise…Claire Sheppard led the way with a season high score of 9.15 on her signature event. Sarah Hughes was next with 8.6, tying her season best. Elise Leggett was third with her personal best score of 8.0.
In the all-around competition, Coldwater’s seniors went 1-2 to close out their home dual meet of their careers. Sarah Hughes tallied 33.55, a career best, for the first place finish overall. Brooke Neitzert had a total of 31.25 points, a season best score, to finish in second place.
The Coldwater gymnastics team is making final preparations for their 8th annual Stick It For a Cure invitational on Saturday. The gymnasts are raising donations for the ProMedica Oncology Center for the benefit of their patients.
The money raised from this year’s event is earmarked to purchase Cooling Caps for the cancer patients. The caps are designed to prevent the loss of hair during chemotherapy treatments.
The gymnastics team would like to invite the public to join them in supporting the cancer center on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. in the Auxiliary Gymnasium at Coldwater High School.
