KINDERHOOK, MI (WTVB) – Southbound I-69 traffic had to be shut down between Fenn Road and Kinderhook in Branch County for a short time Wednesday morning due to a fire on a car hauler near the Iyopawa Road overpass.
There were four vehicles on the hauler when the fire broke out shortly before 9:00 a.m.. Lakeland firefighters put the fire out quickly and cleared the scene at about 9:30 a.m..
Lakeland Fire Chief Paul Searing says the fire was caused by a wheel bearing failure and it was contained to the area of the tire.
One of the vehicles sustained some smoke and heat damage. No injuries were reported.
The interstate was later re-opened, but traffic was slowed as the right lane near the vehicle was shut down.
