HILLSDALE, MI (WTVB) – A sentence of life in prison without parole was handed down in Hillsdale County Circuit Court Monday after a jury found 40-year-old Jay Scott Clark of Bryan, Ohio guilty of first degree murder January 12, 2018 in connection with the death of 37-year-old Jeremy Alan Barron of Camden.
Clark was also convicted on a felony firearm count.
Monday’s sentencing hearing was a formality since the charge Clark was convicted off carries a mandatory life prison term.
Clark was one of the two suspects in the murder case.
27-year-old Ashley Diane Hoath of Hillsdale entered a guilty plea to a charge of second degree murder.
She was ordered to serve 25 to 40 years in the Michigan Department of Corrections.
Hoath was supposed to have been a prosecution witness during Clark’s trial but she refused to testify.
Authorities say Barron was shot to death somewhere in Hillsdale County one year ago this Thursday. His body was placed in a field off of Dimmers Road in Camden Township before it was discovered almost two months later by some Amish children riding their horses.
