COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – For the 21st straight year, the City of Coldwater has been recognized for its efforts to protect local groundwater supplies.
The city has been named a 2017 Groundwater Guardian by The Groundwater Foundation which is a national nonprofit organization based in Lincoln, Nebraska.
Groundwater Guardian is a program that brings diverse sectors of a community together to work toward protecting a community’s groundwater resources.
All of the drinking water for the city comes from four public wells located within an 8.2 square mile area.
The Coldwater BPU stated in a news release that their efforts to protect the groundwater include educating school children about the importance of conservation and pollution prevention as well as updating and improving a source water protection program and management plan for the area’s drinking water supply.
