PLEASANT TOWNSHIP, IN (WTVB) – A Fremont, Indiana man was injured Tuesday morning when a medical event may have led to a crash in the area of State Road 127 near County Road 400 North.
The Steuben County Sheriff’s Department says 70-year-old Daniel J. Worthman was injured in the crash which took place just before 9:15 a.m..
When Sheriff’s deputies first arrived, they found his 2006 Chevy Impala had gone off the road and down a steep embankment.
An initial crash scene investigation indicated that the vehicle had been traveling north on State Road 127 at a high rate of speed when the vehicle drifted off of the east side of the road. It appeared that Worthman then over-corrected back to the west causing his vehicle to slide out of control and travel off of the road.
Worthman suffered lacerations to the facial area and was taken by ambulance to a Fort Wayne area hospital in serious condition.
Seatbelts were in use at the time of the crash but the airbags did not deploy. The crash remains under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office.
Assisting the Sheriff’s Office at the scene were Angola Police, Angola Fire Rescue, the Indiana Department of Natural Resources Law Enforcement Division and
Steuben County EMS.
