COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater High School boys varsity basketball team won their Interstate 8 Conference opener and improved to 1-1 as they pulled away in the second half to defeat Hastings 49-33 Tuesday night.
The Cardinals struggled to a 21-20 halftime lead and then used a 9-3 third quarter to open up a 30-23 lead. Coldwater put the game away by outscoring the Saxons 19-10 in the final quarter. Hastings was guilty of 26 turnovers while the Cardinals turned it over 15 times.
Ethan Crabtree led the Cardinals with 15 points, seven rebounds, five assists and four steals while McDonald’s Player of the Game Brandon Downs had 12 points, three rebounds, four assists and four steals.
Spencer Rodisiler added nine points while Austin Santure had seven rebounds and eight assists.
Quincy 65, Napoleon 60
The Quincy Orioles used 58 percent shooting to score a 65-60 home court victory over Napoleon. Quincy built a 32-22 halftime lead and held off a Napoleon rally in the second half. The Orioles owned a 35-18 edge in rebounding but had to overcome 25 turnovers as they improved to 2-1. Will Dunn led Quincy with 28 points, 13 rebounds and six assists. Kyler Economou had 19 points and seven rebounds while Evan Coon added 12 points
Union City 74, Athens 43
The Union City Chargers improved to 2-1 as they defeated long time rival Athens 74-43. Kyle Johnson led the Chargers with 14 points, eight rebounds and seven steals. Nathan Shaffer had 12 points, six assists and seven steals while Avery Stuart had nine points and seven rebounds.
