TEKONSHA TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB) – Michigan State Police have released the names of the persons involved in a two vehicle crash Monday night on southbound I-69 near M-60 which killed one person and forced a shutdown of the southbound side of the interstate for several hours.
The fatal victim has been identified as 33-year-old James Charles Thompson of Salida, Colorado.
State Police report the lead vehicle was disabled in the road after hitting a deer just before 9:50 p.m.. The two occupants, identified as 44-year-old Yong Qiang Wang from Homestead, Florida, and 43-year-old Xiu Mei Lin from New York City were not inside their disabled vehicle at the time of the crash. Both occupants exited their disabled vehicle after they struck a deer. Neither were injured.
Thompson’s vehicle struck the back of the disabled vehicle, veered off the road and went into a ditch before striking a tree.
First responders performed CPR on Thompson but he was later pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.
The crash is still under investigation. The southbound side was shut down while the investigation was conducted and the debris was cleaned up.
Marshall Fire and Ambulance along with the Tekonsha Fire Department assisted at the scene.
