BATTLE CREEK, MI (WTVB) – The 2019-2020 boys high school basketball season began for area teams last night, with wins for Bronson, Quincy, Tekonsha, and Union City.
Bronson rallied from a 31-22 halftime deficit to win at Battle Creek Saint Philip 54-47 in their season opener. Graham Eley led the Vikings as he had a double double. Eley finished with 20 points and 21 rebounds. Reagan Mayer and Aden Hathaway both had eight points.
The Quincy Orioles won their opening game of the season Monday night as they defeated Marshall Academy 69-56. After falling behind 16-15 after the first quarter, the Orioles took control of the game with a 21-12 second quarter. The Orioles overcame 24 turnovers as they outshot Marshall Academy 54-37 percent and outrebounded them 30-15.
Quincy’s Will Dunn scored 25 points while Kyler Economou added 22 points and Evan Coon grabbed nine rebounds and had six assists.
Union City used a 15-4 third quarter as they rallied for a 40-34 victory at Colon in their season opener. The Chargers trailed 20-14 at halftime before the game in their favor.
Kyle Johnson led the Chargers with 20 points. James Bigelow had nine points and four rebounds while Nolan Shaffer had five rebounds and six steals.

JV Girls – Battle Creek Lakeview 40, Coldwater 33 (Anna DeMeester led the Cardinals with nine points.)
Freshman Girls – Battle Creek Lakeview 25, Coldwater 16 (OT) (Kyra Klotz had five points for the Cardinals.)
