COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Coldwater fell to Kalamazoo Central 58-47 at the Coach Floyd Eby Gymnasium in front of an audience that included scouts from the University of Southern California that came to look at Maroon Giant standout Morasha Wiggins. They saw the Cardinals jump out to a 17-12 first quarter lead, only to see Kalamazoo Central go on a 14-2 second quarter run in the second to help give themselves a 36-28 lead.
Our McDonald’s Player of the Game, junior guard Mia Rzepka, led the Lady Cards with 12 points, 2 rebounds, and 2 assists, while CMU signee Carlee Crabtree had 11 points, 5 boards, 4 assists, and 3 steals. Abby Herman had a team-high 10 rebounds as Coldwater drops to 0-2. As for the Giants’ highly touted prosepect, Morasha Wiggins, she had 15 points while teammate Alaila Walker led all scorers with 16 points, including 4 three-pointers.
Coldwater won the JV game 44-39 behind 12 points from Anna DeMeester and 10 each from Tasha Pike and Jenni Hernandez. Kalamazoo Central took the freshman contest 45-15; Brooklinn Feldbauer led Coldwater with 6 points.
Quincy used a 27-4 first quarter to propel themselves to a 57-20 win at Clinton. Katie Rathbun led the Orioles with 16 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists, and 6 steals. Elizabeth Schreur had 14 points, 6 rebounds, and 7 steals, while Maddie Hinds added 14 points of her own as Quincy improves to 2-0. The Orioles nipped Clinton in the JV game 33-32.
Bronson dropped its season opener to visiting Centreville 54-48. Meagan Lasky led the Vikings with 13 points, Alanna Mayer added 12, and Keona Salesman dropped in 10. Centreville’s Joanna Larsen led all scorers with 27 points and 13 rebounds. The Bulldogs also won the JV contest 48-32.
Tekonsha lost its season opener at Pittsford 50-12. LeeAnn Haire and Emmah Cook led the Indians with 4 points apiece.
