COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Branch County Board of Commissioners suggested during their work session Thursday that a committee be formed, after a pair of animal rights advocacy groups recently proposed that the county establish an animal control ordinance which addresses extreme weather conditions.
Branch County Animal Control Officer Ernie Baker told commissioners it would be best to look at animal ordinances from other counties to see what would be best in Branch County.
Baker has opposed proposed legislative changes in the past because he felt the changes would be difficult to enforce.
The proposed committee would include representatives from Animal Control, the Humane Society of Branch County, the Branch County Prosecutor’s Office, law enforcement agencies within the county, and a county commissioner. They would report back when they have come up with suggestions for a county ordinance.
