COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A wind storm Wednesday that featured wind gusts as high as 44 miles an hour at the Branch County Memorial Airport sent hundreds of residents into the dark for Thanksgiving and likely messed up some holiday plans.
The Burlington, Union City, and Tekonsha areas were the hardest hit by the outages.
Consumer’s Energy reported on Thanksgiving morning that 390 customers in Branch County were without power while another 1,042 customers were out in Calhoun County. The Calhoun County outages included 317 customers in Burlington and another 387 in Tekonsha. There were 105 outages in Sherwood and 75 outages in Union City.
Downed trees was listed as the cause of some of the outages.
The utility says on their website that except for five customers in Branch County and 18 others in Calhoun County, power was fully restored by Friday morning.
Consumer’s Energy reported over 22,000 customers system wide were without power Thanksgiving morning.
Over a dozen reports of downed trees kept Branch County Road Commission crews busy on Wednesday.
