COLON, MI (WTVB) – A 19-year-old man will be formally charged with murder Friday afternoon in Saint Joseph County District Court after a body was found in the village of Colon.
The body of 55-year-old Todd Schwartz was found in a garage behind Illusions Hair Care Salon on South Blackstone Avenue. The suspect reportedly called the police about the body around seven a.m. yesterday. The St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s office says the suspect and victim knew each other.
Details of the homicide have not been released.
The scene was being processed by the Michigan State Police Mobile Crime Lab Thursday afternoon.
The murder and the ensuing investigation shocked and saddened community members.
The events happened on the day the Colon High School football team left for the M.H.S.A.A. Eight Person Division One Football Finals in Marquette. Dana Yaw told WWMT-TV, “For this to happen just puts a damper on the day for everybody in the town. You would never think of anything like this happening in a small town.”
