WASHINGTON D.C. (WTVB) – After all of the rotten weather this year, the U.S. Department of Agriculture has designated 43 counties in Michigan as “primary natural disaster areas,” making assistance available to ag producers.
Republican Congressman Fred Upton says this will help farmers who were affected by the weather during what he calls a disasterous year.
He points out farmers had to put up with last winter’s polar vortex along with the large amount of rain in the spring that prevented some from getting their crops in the ground.
The designation included St. Joseph and Hillsdale counties but not Branch or Calhoun counties.
