COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Over 150 volunteers met in the Activity Center of First Baptist Church of Coldwater this past Saturday to pack shoe boxes which will be distributed to underprivileged children in over 150 countries.
Volunteers included several scouting organizations, their leaders, members of the First Baptist Church and families from the community wishing to lend a hand.
Nearly 1,600 shoe boxes containing gift items for children were packed and are about to be shipped for overseas Christmas distribution.
Operation Christmas Child is a ministry of Samaritan’s Purse, named after the Good Samaritan in Luke 10, the tenth chapter of the Gospel of Luke in the New Testament of the Christian Bible. The group is dedicated to providing help to the world’s poor and suffering people.
Samaritan’s Purse is a non-denominational evangelical Christian organization started in 1970 and led by Franklin Graham.
Over 5,000 locations are open this week for the drop off of Shoe Boxes packed by local churches and families who also participate in the project.
