COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A Coldwater area man was formally arraigned Monday in Branch County District Court on charges that were filed in connection with the June 3, 2018 death of a man in his Ovid Township home.
41-year-old Chad Danbury has been charged with second degree murder and assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder.
The reading of the charges was waived by the defense and not guilty pleas were entered on Danbury’s behalf during Monday’s arraignment.
Also waived was the requirement of probable cause and preliminary exam hearings within 21 days. Danbury is due back in court for a probable cause hearing on January second with a preliminary exam set for January 9, 2020.
Danbury is free after posting a $250,000 surety bond. It was agreed by the two sides that he could travel for his job as long as it was work related.
36-year-old Grant Gregory Morrison died at his home in the 400 block of Morning Glory Lane, where Michigan State Police investigators say a fight took place between Morrison and Danbury.
Danbury surrendered at the Branch County Jail October 27 after the Branch County Prosecutor’s Office filed the charges.
Former Prosecutor Ralph Kimble declined to press charges last year because he felt there was no criminal intent on Danbury’s part. The charges were filed last month after further investigation by the State Police.
