COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A Coldwater woman is facing six misdemeanor charges after her neighbor in the 200 block of Pelton Avenue complained to Coldwater Police that her two dogs attacked him twice in late February.
According to Branch County court documents, 33-year-old Rachel Natasha Mikovic-Day is facing two counts each of failure to license and register a dog, dog at large and harboring a vicious animal.
She was arraigned on Tuesday in Branch County District Court and not guilty pleas were entered on her behalf.
The two dogs are five and seven year old Dogo Argentinos. Mikovic-Day is accused of not having a Branch County dog license for either one.
In the first incident, the dogs allegedly strayed from the defendant’s premises and over to the neighbor’s property where they acted aggressively toward him as he was trying take groceries from his car to his house. At one point, one of the dogs bit a grocery bag and ripped it.
In the second incident, the neighbor knocked on her door to tell Mikovic-Day her dogs were loose. When no one answered, he began to walk home when the two dogs attacked him in the front yard. One of them caused a severe injury to his left forearm as he tried to protect his face. He then shot the two dogs with a nine millimeter hand gun.
All of the charges carry maximum sentences of 90 days in jail and a $500 fine.
A personal recognizance bond was set at $1,000 and a pre-trial conference was scheduled for March 23.
