COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The leaves are still being raked but that did not stop Old Man Winter from making an early appearance on Monday.
Between seven and nine inches of snow was reported from throughout the area after Monday’s snow which started in the wee hours of the morning and didn’t stop until the early evening.
The weather made for a busy day for police and 911 dispatchers. According to the Branch County 911 log for Monday, there were 25 property damage accidents reported along with 34 slide offs.
Just one injury accident was reported as a woman was taken to ProMedica Coldwater Regional Hospital following a crash on southbound I-69 near Herricksville Road.
The City of Coldwater says road crews have to plow about four feet away from the curb in order to avoid the leaf piles that were raked near the road before the storm as plowing them showers the surrounding area with leaves.
After the big snow comes the big chill. Record lows are expected to be shattered on Tuesday. This could be Coldwater’s coldest November 12 in a century. The record low of 14 degrees that was set in 1920 is in serious danger of being smashed as forecasters are calling for lows Tuesday night of five to ten above zero.
