COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) –
Branch County is under a Winter Weather Advisory until midnight as Old Man Winter has decided to arrive earlier than normal this year.
Forecasts are calling for a total of four to six inches of snow in Branch County on Monday.
The storm system which is bringing in the snow will then produce very cold air that could break record low temperatures.
It will also initiate lake effect snow.
While most of southern lower Michigan, northwest Ohio and northern are under a Winter Weather Advisory, Berrien and Cass are under a Winter Storm Warning. Those areas are expected to receive up to ten inches of snow with isolated amounts of 12 inches or more possible.
The lake effect snow areas could see snowfall rates of one to two inches per hour at times within the heavier lake effect bands.
Driving is expected to be treacherous.
Visibility can also be impacted within the heavier snow bands and can be rapidly changing as bands move in and out of areas. Be cautious if you do have to drive in some of the heavier snow-receiving areas.
Areas outside of the lake effect belts are expected to receive flurries at best Monday night into Tuesday outside of the lake effect snow. Lake effect snow is expected to end late Tuesday night or early Wednesday morning.
