CENTREVILLE, MI (WTVB) – St. Joseph County Sheriff Bradley Balk will be retiring at the end of January.
The Sturgis Journal reports Balk shared a written statement with the Board of Commissioners on Tuesday which announced his intentions. He says Undersheriff Mark Lillywhite will be taking over the Sheriff’s Department January 31, 2020.
The 65-year-old Balk will not be running for another term and he is retiring 11 months before his current term expires.
Balk indicated in his statement that he was healthy but he wanted to spend more time with his family.
Lillywhite has been with the St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Department for 24 years.
